STRUCTURAL REPAIR SEQUENCE

From visible defect
to controlled cure.

These field images show why a structural blade repair cannot be judged from the finished surface alone. The result depends on each controlled stage beneath it.

Defect identification during rope-access composite wind turbine blade repair01

Defect identification

The visible defect is documented and the repair boundaries are established before intervention begins.

Surface preparation during rope-access composite wind turbine blade repair02

Surface preparation

The affected area is opened and prepared to create the defined repair geometry and a sound bonding surface.

Vacuum consolidation during rope-access composite wind turbine blade repair03

Vacuum consolidation

The replacement laminate is enclosed and consolidated under vacuum in accordance with the repair process.

Controlled curing during rope-access composite wind turbine blade repair04

Controlled curing

A heating blanket and temperature sensors support a controlled cure and provide evidence for the repair record.

A repair is a controlled sequence

First, the defect is recorded and the work limits are defined. The damaged area is then prepared to the geometry required by the approved repair instruction, creating a clean and suitable surface for the replacement laminate.

During lamination, vacuum consolidation helps control contact, remove trapped air and maintain the required repair build-up. The cure is then managed with heating equipment and temperature monitoring appropriate to the material system.

Inspect → Prepare → Laminate → Consolidate → Cure → Verify → Document.

Each stage creates evidence for the next.

Final acceptance depends on the approved repair instruction, material specification, environmental conditions, cure record and inspection results for the individual blade.
